We had the honor of attending a birthday party for the five year old son of one of the TellAsia office workers. It was pretty much like an American birthday party, with a few variations. No one brings gifts to an Indian birthday party. The proud parents hand-fed some cake to their son (like the cake-cutting at an American wedding).
