David writes:
Our pastor recently encouraged us to define more clearly for our supporters what we have been called to do as cross-cultural workers.
As Shari and I look at our own skills and passions and evaluate where we fit in God’s global harvest, we are certain we are called to work in a cross-cultural setting. We both carried this passion as single adults, long before we got married in 1998. Our pre-marriage discussions revolved around a shared vision for global ministry. Shari’s health situation (kidney dialysis) kept us in the USA for 9 years, but her successful kidney transplant in 2006 opened a door for us to GO. We never want to stop going!
David carries a deep love for native pastors and leaders, desiring to encourage them and equip them with solid biblical teaching and Spirit-empowered training for ministry. He loves to sit with these men and women, opening the Bible and discovering together what God teaches us about life and leadership.
Shari is a born teacher who is most fulfilled teaching practical skills and Christian discipleship in a cross-cultural setting, especially to girls and boys.
For both of us this means (God permitting) our feet will walk on foreign soil countless times in the remaining years of our lives.
It also means less “spiritual” work like:

It also means less “spiritual” work like:
- promoting high-quality projects and ministries in other countries
- building partnerships with churches and individual donors
- applying for grants, and managing those funds
- teaching on missions-related topics
- mobilizing believers to take their first steps into global ministry
- offering practical assistance to nonprofit organizations who are working cross-culturally
- producing marketing materials
- speaking publicly when we get the opportunity
Where do you fit in God’s global harvest? What are your skills and interests? If you could write your own job description for kingdom service, what would it look like? Write your vision, and send it to us. We want to join our prayers to yours, and stand in agreement with you for a lifetime of fruitful impact for God. “Someday” is today.
